INSTRUCTIONS

EXERCISE1: QUANTIFY & VISUALISE DATA
Gather a set of objects and separate it into category such as color, shape, pattern, and other quantifiable factor.
Example:

1. Box of Lego
2. Jar of button
3. Jar of marble ball
4. Set of colourful rubber strap

In this exercise you're required to quantify our chosen objects and arrange them into a presentable layout or chart.
The information must be presented as is, and you need to arrange the objects with relevant indicators written out with pens to help you to visualize the quantity and data. The examples of objects that can be use are buttons, coins, Lego pieces, M&Ms, and more.

For the first week of classes, we need to bring either a jar of buttons, Lego bricks, coins or M&M candies to quantify and organize the items into a visually appealing layout or chart.

I've chose to bring a packet of candy for this exercise.
process 1
Before I started sorted and organized the candy.
process 2
Before I started arranging them, I sorted and organized the data to understand what I had. I also counted the quantities of each candy amount I have.
process 3

I made a draft arrangement on how I would like to visualize my data. This helped me think of better ways to visualize it.
process 4

I made second draft arrangement. I try another pattern.
process 5

This is my final poster pattern.

REFLECTION

Experience
Exercise 1: Data Visualization
I chose a packet of candy for this exercise. First, I sorted and counted the candies by color. Then, I experimented with different layouts before deciding on a final design. My final layout used a puzzle shape to represent my personal growth. Each color had a meaning: red for passion, orange for creativity, yellow for happiness, green for growth, and brown for stability.

Exercise 2: LATCH Poster
I created an infographic about the singer G.E.M. using the LATCH method. I researched her background and career milestones, organizing them into Location (Shanghai, Hong Kong), Time (career timeline), Category (music career), and Hierarchy (achievements). I used a vinyl record as the background to match the music theme. After designing the layout, I added effects like shadows and glow to highlight key elements and adjusted the colors to make the poster more vibrant.

Observations
Exercise 1: Data Visualization
  • Sorting the candies helped me see how data organization is important before designing.
  • Trying different layouts helped me find the best way to display the information.
  • The puzzle concept added meaning and made the data more interesting.
  • Colors made the design more engaging and visually appealing.

Exercise 2: LATCH Poster
  • Using LATCH made the information clear and easy to understand.
  • The vinyl record background helped connect the design to the theme of music.
  • Adding effects like shadows and glow made key elements stand out.
  • Arranging text and images in different ways helped improve the final design.
  • Adjusting colors made the poster more eye-catching and professional.

Findings
Exercise 1: Data Visualization
  • Planning and experimenting with layouts improve clarity and design quality.
  • Using colors and symbols can make data more engaging.
  • Trying different arrangements helps find the best presentation style.
  • Organizing physical objects improves spatial awareness and design skills.

Exercise 2: LATCH Poster
  • The LATCH method helps structure complex information clearly.
  • A consistent design, such as a themed background, improves the overall look.
  • Digital tools and design techniques make infographics more effective.
  • Typography, color, and layout choices impact how engaging the design is.

Conclusion
These exercises taught me the importance of organizing information, trying different layouts, and using design techniques to make visuals more effective. Exercise 1 improved my ability to arrange physical objects, while Exercise 2 helped me enhance my digital design skills. These experiences will be useful for future projects.
