LECTURES
Lectures Week 1
Mr. Hafiz introduced the overall module information to the class in the beginning week. He first began to instruct us on how to engage in an online game designed to enhance our proficiency in using the pen tool within Adobe Illustrator. Our task involved successfully navigating through all the car stages using the Bezier Method, ultimately the lesser nodes used indicate how you master the skill. After completing the work, we need to upload a screenshot of our work on Microsoft Teams.
These are my results I found this game quite challenging in the beginning than try a few times, I got familiar with it but I was able to do 14 nodes only.

Lectures Week 2: Vormator Shapes, Characters Design Basic
In this lecture, I have understood the concept of STYLIZED CHARACTERS DESIGN should be:
ICONIC: immediately recognized even in black silhouettes
SIMPLICITY: allows viewers to digest and understand the purpose of the characters easily
UNIQUE: not only memorable but makes an impact on the viewers
PRINCIPLES OF CHARACTER DESIGN
SHAPES:
- add some weight to their personality
- explore the possibilities of combining different interesting shapes for your design
COLOUR:
- colors play an important role in determining and separating the basic characteristics of heroes, villains, and even background characters.
-utilize the psychological color to give impressions of different emotions and is easily relatable by the viewers
EMPHASIS, CONTRAST:
-a good character exaggerates the emphasis and contrasting visual elements to make the design stand out by using colors...
HARMONY:
-all shapes, lines, colors, motifs and patterns must be put together in a tasteful manner
-every element in the characters should complement each other and how reflect the narrative of the characters
EXPRESSION, POSES:
-clear visualization of characters' behaviors, quirks, and personalities makes it easier to appeal to viewers
-examples: long eyelashes exaggerate disgust and display emotions to a vain-like quality
Lectures Week 3: Shapes, Light and Dark, Chiaroscuro
CHIAROSCURO:
Italian term 'light-dark'. The use of light and dark to create the illusion of three-dimensional volume on a flat surface refers to a "clear tonal contrast technique".
The purpose of the technique is to increase the scene's dramatic tension by exaggerating the use of color or light contrast. It also highlights illuminated parts with predominantly dark settings and the focus point or subject of a scene is brightly colored.
CHIAROSCURO WIDELY USED IN VISUAL NARRATIVE BECAUSE...
Excellent lighting choice to differentiate positive vs negatives spaces
-Positive Face (subject matter or object of interest in a visual)
-Negative Face (filled space or background that surrounds subject matter or object of interest in visual)
-Increase dramatic tension and thrilling emotive depth on visual
-Create sensational effects that elevate fantastical viewpoints
-Attract attention that establishes a hierarchy
-Make tasteful composition
Lectures Week 4
No Class in this week
Lectures Week 5
Under Mr. Hafiz guidance, we learn to enhance our skills in chiaroscuro design by tracing a man character out instead of doing a pear. We were instructed to apply a texture to our designs as well. Following his instruction, we mainly used pen tool, clipping mask to do this exercise. The final outcome was produce both a textured chiaroscuro and a standard chiaroscuro.
Lectures Week 6
Mr. Hafiz briefed us Task 2: Decisive Moment. Basically, we have to read and research an urban legend and create a decisive moment poster out of it and animate it as the final task. Decisive moment is mean the scene where the turning point to a story- the main turning point.
INSTRUCTION
Task 1 Exercise (20%)- Individual Assignment
Exercise and Marking Criteria:
1. Vormator Challenge Character 10%
2. Game Card Design 10%
Learning Goals:
- To generate and communicate design concepts and solutions through manual and digital skills effectively and skillfully
-To explore, generate, and examine a wide range of conceptual ideas
-To utilize information and communication technology to source navigate, select, retrieve and manage information

TUTORIAL
Week 2: Vormator Challenge
Mr. Hafiz explained the exercise "VORMATOR CHALLENGE" and gave an exercise to trace 8 shapes was given to heat us up before design our own character. By doing the exercise, we got to learn how to use pen tool and curvature tool.

Week 3: Pear Chiaroscuro Exercise
Chiaroscuro known as "Light and Shadow". Pen tool and Pathfinder Tool are used in this task to trace out the figure and the shadow. In the beginning, Mr. Hafiz assigned an exercise for us the exercise is about tracing a pear. He teaches us to use the pen tool draw a line and using the pathfinder tools to divide the pears into two parts, applying dark color on one side to create a shadow, thus, giving the object three dimensional appearance. In addition, we also use pathfinder to cut off the pear and draw a irregular oval and arrange it behind the pear so it will looks like the pear have been cut off. Beside that, we could incorporate extra elements such as fill in other color. The final task is creating a skull by using the pear as our foundation.

Week 5: Human Chiaroscuro Exercise
This week we still focus on the chiaroscuro technique, but we're taking it a step further by applying it to portrait.
Fig 5.1 Image provided for Chiaroscuro (23 Oct 2023 - Week 5)
I have gained valuable insights into incorporating texture within shadows by making effective use of the clipping mask feature.

Week 6
Mr. Hafiz briefed us Task 2: Decisive Moment. Basically, we have to read and research an urban legend and create a decisive moment poster out of it and animate it. Besides that, he let us finalize our Pokémon card assignment.
Reflection
Experience:
Through these few weeks exercises, I've achieved proficiency in various Adobe Illustrator tools such as pen tool, Pathfinder Tool, Curvature Tool, Pencil tool and more. The entire experience was enjoyable and I had the opportunity to craft my very own Vormator Character card and particularly engaging me in the task of tracing the Chiaroscuro of the pear and the man.
